❋
Queen City Preservation invites you to join us for a two-day workshop focused on the art and value of historic window preservation. Original windows are a defining feature of historic buildings, yet they are often replaced when repair is both possible and may be more appropriate. This event is designed to help our community better understand, care for, and advocate for these important elements of our built environment-
What to Expect
We’ll kick things off on Friday, May 15th, 2026, from 6–8 PM with an evening presentation exploring the history of windows in America and why their preservation matters. Including dispelling some of the common myths surrounding historic windows & how those came about. This session is free & open to the public! It offers a great introduction for anyone curious about historic windows and doors or interested if they really need to replace their historic windows.
On Saturday, May 16th, 2026, from 9 AM–3 PM, we’ll continue with a hands-on workshop where participants will learn practical skills for evaluating and restoring historic windows. This portion will walk through the process of safely disassembling a window and introduce techniques such as paint removal, glazing, glass cutting, and finish preparation. The hands-on workshop is $75 per participant, and space is limited, so advance registration is required. Lunch will be provided!
This workshop is meant to be approachable, informative, and engaging—whether you’re a homeowner, preservation enthusiast, contractor, or simply interested in learning something new. We recommend wearing long pants and sleeves, and you’re welcome to bring your own respirator if preferred. We’ll have nitrile gloves, N95 masks, and safety goggles available for all participants. If you have any mobility needs or other considerations, please reach out ahead of time so we can try to accommodate you.
